Mission Statement:

The Empowerment Center is a community collaborative that creates accessibility to services that empower individuals to get from where they are, to where they desire to be.

The concept is a community partnership that will serve women, children, and men. It is a location where we can offer multiple services to individuals and/or community partners. Similar to a one-stop shop. The idea is to partner with other service providers and offer a small meeting space to provide their service(s) to community members. The Empowerment Center will also offer various Empowerment and Personal Development groups and workshops.

Through partnerships with other service providers the Empowerment Center will offer:

  • Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Services
  • Transitional Services
  • Homeless Intervention Services
  • Parenting Classes (Triple P Curriculum)
  • ESL (English as a Second Language)
  • Spanish Interpretation
  • Empowerment Groups
  • Mediation/Parent Visitation
  • Health/Wellness Training
  • Court Advocacy (DV/SA)
  • Legal Consultation
  • Resource Assistance (Catholic Charities)
  • Emotional Support
  • Pastoral Counseling
  • Financial Literacy
  • Employability Training

Advocates available Monday – Friday 8am – 3pm. Saturdays available by appointment.

Empowerment Center Policy

Safe Haven’s Empowerment Center is a community collaborative that creates accessibility to services that empower individuals to get from where they are, to where they desire to be.

The Empowerment Center is a community partnership that will serve those impacted by, or at risk of being impacted by, domestic violence/sexual assault. It is a location where multiple services can be offered to individuals and/or community partners. The idea is to partner with other service providers and offer small meeting spaces to provide their service(s) to the target population. The Empowerment Center offers various Empowerment and Personal Development groups and workshops.

Policies & Procedures:

The purpose of the meeting spaces at Safe Haven’s Empowerment Center are to allow various service providers to meet with victims, survivors, and/or those at risk of domestic violence/sexual assault in Pender County. The Empowerment Center has limited space and availability; and room reservations are scheduled according to the service being provided and space availability. Empowerment Center staff will schedule and manage all reservations.

Eligibility for Use

Safe Haven welcomes providers and organizations at the Empowerment Center that provide services in the following areas (or closely aligned with the following service areas). Special consideration will be given to providers/organizations that offer bilingual services.

  • Teen Dating Violence
  • Transitional Services
  • Homeless Intervention
  • Parenting Classes
  • Teen Parenting
  • ESL (English as a Second Language)
  • Spanish Interpretation
  • Mediation/Parent Visitation

  • Court Advocacy (DV/SA)
  • Legal Consultation
  • Resource Assistance
  • Mental & Emotional Health
  • Financial Literacy
  • Workforce Development Services and Training

Reservations

Please call (910) 259-2449 during regular business hours Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 3:00pm to reserve a meeting space. Meeting/activity requests will be reviewed and approved or denied by Safe Haven staff. Please be mindful of the above list of priority service areas.

Safe Haven will publicize all activities at the Empowerment Center via our website, Facebook page, and center’s bulletin board. Other outreach is the responsibility of the organization.

An “Empowerment Center Room Usage” application must be completed and emailed to empowermentcenter@safehavenofpender.com. The application can be downloaded on Safe Haven’s website at www.safehavenofpender.com. Decisions will be made on requests within 5 business days.

Regulations

  1. Organizations must provide ALL services/activities FREE of charge.
  2. Organizations must set-up and clean-up meeting space. Failure to do so will result in space being unavailable for future use.
  3. There is no storage at the Empowerment Center for materials or property of other organizations.
  4. No food or drink is allowed, but water bottles are permitted.
  5. Please be courteous of scheduled time frame, as the space may be reserved prior to and/or following your usage.
